House histories

Houses hold memories that last beyond a lifetime. If your walls could talk, ever wondered what tales they’d tell? Maybe they’d whisper secrets from families before you, gloat about the status they’ve held in Queensland communities over the years or tell stories about how their fixtures and features came to be. Explore video guides on each topic for handy tips and to introduce you to the resources you’ll need. Find out more about House histories

Terrace houses have been built in Australian cities since the earliest days of colonial settlement. They represent another English tradition brought out to the colonies. Their subtle details reflect the variation of architectural styles seen in nineteenth century England. Expansive rows of terrace houses were built between 1840 and 1890 as an economical way to house the rapidly growing population of Australia’s expanding cities and regional centres. Many different styles of terrace house emerged across the country.

Fashionable inner-city terraces were grander in size and ornament and were often built overlooking parks or the waterfront. Smaller, more affordable terraces for workers were built in large tracts on the city fringe, close to railway and tram lines. The Surry Hills Terrace is manufactured from plywood and is 100% Australian made. Comes with assembly instructions.Dimensions: Model Scale 1:100 – Approx Width 58mm x Height 122mm x Depth 101mm
