Boro broochJapanese boro stitched brooches with Barbara Vine

Learn the art of employing stitching to patch or recycle fabric scraps. The Japanese have traditionally used this method to extend the life of a garment with simple boro stitching, creating something of beauty out of imperfection. In this workshop, you will use this traditional technique to create an artistic fabric brooch.

Only a basic stitching level is required, using straight hand stitches. An assortment of fabrics allow you to make a brooch that is unique.. Superglue will be used to fix your brooch pin to the back.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your workshop start time to register and secure your place. Suitable for beginners aged 12+.

Kay Watanabe takes you through the basics of crafting your own simple, but beautiful notebooks.

You’ll be taught how to prepare covers and paper, and then instructed in the binding of the two via Japanese stab and pamphlet stitch techniques along the spine.

Kanzashi flowersKanzashi flowers with Mabina Alaka

Local artist and creator Mabina Alaka will guide you through the creation of your own piece of flower art, perfect for a piece of jewellery.

Mabina will show you how to create traditional Japanese kanzashi flowers for a piece of jewellery. If you’d like to continue creating at home, you can purchase kanzashi tools and fabric on the night.
